Women's Long Jump

Thursday, June 9, 2011

Tori Bowie of Southern Miss. came in as the favorite seeing that she won the title indoors only a couple months ago, and she did not disappoint, winning with a 6.64m jump (21-9 ½). She did get very good competition though in the form of Ti'Anca Mock of Oklahoma who had the exact same distance as Bowie, but since Bowie had a better second jump she was crowned champion. In third was Jamesha Youngblood a senior form Oregon who was the leader entering finals with a jump of 6.59 (21-7 ½), this would end up being her final distance. Fourth was Whitney Gipson of TCU, fifth was Chantel Malone of Texas, sixth was Nina Kokot of Kansas State, seventh was Christabell Nety of Arizona State, and eighth was April Sinkler of Clemson.
Bowie became Southern Miss' first track and field NCAA Champion when she won indoors and now she adds to her collection.
