So the 2014 US Championships had many surprises and many things that went to the form books. These championships showed that anything can happen and anyone can win on any given day. This could also be because this year is an off year with no major championships for the Americans, so a lot of people are trying new things. Some big names are coming back from injury while others only ran the opening rounds of their races.
Some of the surprises that happened were Devon Allen Winning the high hurdles, Jordan Hassay has speed (this is big news), Emma Coburn's time ran alone and how fast Sanya Richards-Ross ran coming off of toe surgery last year. There were also a lot of things that were predicted by many, such as the Jenny Simpson winning the 1500m, a great women's hurdles race, or Mike Rodgers simply out classing a great but not amazing 100m field. Also the Women's 5000m was a thrilling race between Molly Huddle and Shannon Rowbury, with huddle coming out on top.
In the field most everything went to the books, with both pole vaults being won by the two people I consider to the be favorites in Jenn Suhr and Sam Kendricks. The high jumps were dominated by the same faces over the past 2 years with olympic Silver medalist Erik Kynard taking the title for the men while an in form Inka McPherson won with the American Record holder Chaunte Lowe and the Olympic silver medalist Brigetta Barrett finishing second and third respectively. Favorites Michelle Carter (shot put), Amanda Smock (triple jump), Kara Patterson (javelin), Sharon Day-Monroe (heptathlon), Brittney Reese (long jump), Kibwe Johnson (hammer throw), Trey Hardee (decathlon), Will Claye and Christian Taylor (triple jump) all took the title or second in their respective events.
All in all this was a great championships with some new faces of american track and field showing up and some old faces still hanging around.

So I've kind of neglected my blog for a long time because school and life just got in the way. But school is over and it's time to start a new chapter, which includes blogging again!!
