Tomorrow is the ninth Diamond League meet of the year in Glasgow, GBR. This two day meet should provide loads of excitement with some big names of Track and field showing up such as Allyson Felix, Sanya Richards-Ross, Abeba Aregawi, David Rudisha and Christian Taylor. Here's a preview of all the events taking place.
On day one First on the schedule is the men's shot put. This should be a great competition between all three Olympic medalists along with world champions and new faces. One of about four or five guys could take the top spot; David Storl, Reese Hoffa, Joe Kovacs and Tomasz Majewski. Kovacs and Storl have the top two throws in the world this year but you can never count out the likes of Hoffa and Majewski, although Majewski has not had a great season so far.
My top 3
1. Storl
2. Kovacs
3. Hoffa
Next up is the women's discus, and can anyone challenge Sandra Perkovic, she has been very dominant this year winning all four of her Diamond league events with all of them being the top 4 marks in the world this year. the only other woman over 67 meters is Dani Samuels.
Top 3
1. Perkovic
2. Dani Samuels
3. Gia Lewis-Smallwood
Men's 400 hurdles is a toss up. From what has been shown this season all for the men are running fairly close times this season. All but one member of the field has broken 49 seconds this year and none of them have gone sub-48. The two favorites are Javier Culson and Michael Tinsley based on their wins this year at other diamond league events. Not too be counted out though are two Olympic Champions Felix Sanchez and Ashton Eaton. Sanchez has been rounding into form the last couple weeks and Eaton is trying out a new event from the decathlon. Also with a faster time this year than both these men is Roxroy Cato who looks poised for a breakthrough.
Top 3
1. Tinsley
2. Culson
3. Eaton
The Men's 200 is not a Diamond league event this meet but still proves to be a good race. Some of the men slated to run include the two fastest men this year with Alonso Edwards and Warren Weir. also in the race is Wallace Spearmon who has the fastest personal best of the men and is in lane eight which is great for him because he is not a great turn runner. Also Curtis Mitchell recently won the US Championship at this distance.
Top3
1. Weir
2. Mitchell
3. Edwards
The Women's Long Jump should be a great competition. Tianna Bartoletta is the favorite with her 7.02m jump a month ago, she also has the three longest jumps this year. Behind her there are four women who could challenge based on their personal bests or seasons bests; Katarina Johnson-Thompson, Sosthene Moguenara, Funmi Jimoh, and Shara Proctor. These four ladies have all jumped with in 5cm of each other this year with the later three all boasting personal bests of 6.95m or greater. But with jumps you never know what can happen there could be a gust of wind that pushes someone to a far distance or someone can foul all of their jumps.
Top 3
1. Bartoletta
2. Johnson-Thompson
3. Proctor
The women's 1500 should be a fantastic race with the reigning World Champion Abiba Aregawi looking to redeem herself from her disappointing performance in Paris last week. Sifan Hassan who last week won in Paris in a world leading time of 3:57.00 looks to keep up that momentum, along with Helen Obiri who has the second fastest time in the world this year and finished second in Paris last week. The US has a big interest in this race with Jordan Hassay, Treneir Moser, and MOrgan Uceny all looking for fast times.
Top 3
1. Obiri
2. Hassan
3. Aregawi
The Men's 5000m looks to be a good race with some big names like Edwin Soi, Thomas Longosiwa, Bernard Lagat, Tariku Bekele, Dejen Gebremeskel, and Hagos Ghebrhiwet. If this race goes with the pace makers it should be a fast one. Lagat is looking to redeem himself after lackluster performance at Prefontaine, though he did comeback to win the US Championships.
Top 3
1. Soi
2. Gebremeskel
3. Lagat
The Women's 400m should be a thrilling race with 4 of the top 6 fastest women in the field. Francena Mccorory looks poised to run another fast time, but she has to beware of reigning Olympic Champion Sanya Richards-Ross and Novlene Williams-Mills. Also Amantle Montsho and Natasha Hastings cannot be counted out.
Top 3
1. Richards-Ross
2. Mccorory
3. Montsho
Closing day one looks to be a fast men's 100m. With a lot of big names not running, this puts Mike Rodgers as the Favorite with a seasons best time of 9.95. Richard Thompson has run faster this year 9.82 but Rodgers has been more consistent. But Yohan Blake cannot be counted out, even though he looked terrible over 200 last week he is still the tied second fastest man ever. all runners in the field have ran 10.12 or faster this year with 6 of the 9 running 10.03 or faster. This race looks to be a close finish and who knows exactly who might win, I'm putting my money on Rodgers, but who knows.
Top 3
1. Rodgers
2. Blake
3. Thompson
2014 US Championships
Monday, June 30, 2014
So the 2014 US Championships had many surprises and many things that went to the form books. These championships showed that anything can happen and anyone can win on any given day. This could also be because this year is an off year with no major championships for the Americans, so a lot of people are trying new things. Some big names are coming back from injury while others only ran the opening rounds of their races.
Some of the surprises that happened were Devon Allen Winning the high hurdles, Jordan Hassay has speed (this is big news), Emma Coburn's time ran alone and how fast Sanya Richards-Ross ran coming off of toe surgery last year. There were also a lot of things that were predicted by many, such as the Jenny Simpson winning the 1500m, a great women's hurdles race, or Mike Rodgers simply out classing a great but not amazing 100m field. Also the Women's 5000m was a thrilling race between Molly Huddle and Shannon Rowbury, with huddle coming out on top.
In the field most everything went to the books, with both pole vaults being won by the two people I consider to the be favorites in Jenn Suhr and Sam Kendricks. The high jumps were dominated by the same faces over the past 2 years with olympic Silver medalist Erik Kynard taking the title for the men while an in form Inka McPherson won with the American Record holder Chaunte Lowe and the Olympic silver medalist Brigetta Barrett finishing second and third respectively. Favorites Michelle Carter (shot put), Amanda Smock (triple jump), Kara Patterson (javelin), Sharon Day-Monroe (heptathlon), Brittney Reese (long jump), Kibwe Johnson (hammer throw), Trey Hardee (decathlon), Will Claye and Christian Taylor (triple jump) all took the title or second in their respective events.
All in all this was a great championships with some new faces of american track and field showing up and some old faces still hanging around.

Summer time is track time!
Tuesday, July 2, 2013
I know missed talking about the beginning of the season and then US Champs, and all the American records and world leading performances to date but all those amazing distances, heights and times tell me that this season is going to be a great one.
I think this season will show more new faces on the world stage that are legitimate contenders for world titles. That being said the newest face that is one of the biggest contenders for a World title is the new American record holder over the 100 hurdles Brianna Rollins. She shattered the colligate marks at both 60 and 100 hurdles this year and then at the US Championships demolished Gail Dever's American record running a 12.26, the fastest time in 21 years. Who knows maybe she can challenge the world record this year.
Also there was Justin Gatlin beating Usain Bolt in Rome. There also was the return of Tyson Gay, with him running a 9.75 in the 100 and a 19.74 in the 200 to win the sprint double at US Championships. Also this season Veronica Campbell-Brown tested positive for a banned substance. She is currently waiting to hear what will happen with a suspension of any sort. There have also been many injuries to 2012 olympians; Carmelita Jeter, Aries Merritt, Sanya Richard-Ross (had toe surgery), Lashinda Demus and the list could go on.
Every one this year is looking forward to the World Champinonships in moscow in August and I think this might be one of the fastest in history, maybe not 2009 fast when Bolt broke both the 100, 200 and was on the WR 4x100 team but you never know.

Boston University Terrier Classic
Thursday, January 31, 2013
Last weekend I had the opportunity to compete at a great meet the Terrier Classic hosted by Boston University. This meet was awesome. There were some really fast times run especially by Galen Rupp (Olympic Silver Medalist in the 10k). Rupp ran a 3:50.9 in the mile in his effort to try and break the American record. Even though he came up a little short of the mark he still ran one of the fastest indoor mile times ever. After his race he ran a victory lap and signed autographs and took pictures with the fans. Obviously I had to get in there and get a picture with him. It was awesome! I was so excited! I also have a video of the race. It was epic!
Back on my blogging grind!
Monday, January 28, 2013
So this weekend I was at the Boston University Terrier Classic and I got to witness some great running. So that made me decide to start up on my blog again. I'm not gonna be posting everyday but hopefully once or twice a week because with school and my own training it's hard to find time to actually blog, but I'm gonna try my best!

Day 3 Predictions
Sunday, June 24, 2012
Women's Pole Vault
1. Jenn Suhr
2. Kylie Hudson
3. Becky Holiday
Suhr is the 2008 Olympic Silver Medalist. Although she has dealt with achilles injuries in recent years she is the clear favorite. Hudson has come on the scene in the past year and is the reigning US champ. Holiday is a consistent vaulter and will have a great shot at making it. Others that could possibly make the team are Mary Saxer, April Steiner Bennett and Lacy Jansen.
The Men's Long Jump
1. Will Claye
2. Marquise Goodwin
3. Christian Taylor
Claye is the favorite having competed in the world championships last year. Claye is also a great tripple jumper recently winning the World Indoor Title. Goodwin is the only other jumper in the final with the A standard so no matter where he finishes unless others jump 8.20m then he is going to London. Taylor has the closest PR to the A standard at 8.19m, although he is known more for his tripple jump prowess being the reigning World Outdoor Champion.
Women's Discus:
1. Stephanie Brown Trafton
2. Aretha Thurmond
3. Gia Lewis-Smallwood
Brown Trafton is the reigning Olympic Champion. She has set a new American Record this year and is the favorite. Thurmond has proved more consistent than Brown Trafton in the last few years.
Lewis-Smallwood is the only other person with the A standard in the field.
Men's Shot Put:
1. Reese Hoffa
2. Christian Cantwell
3. Ryan Whiting
These three have been the most consistent out of the field this year. Hoffa has been one of the best in the word this year. Cantwell hasnt had the year like he had in 2009 or 2010 but he is the Olympic Silver Medalist fron Beijing. Whiting is the reigning World Indoor Champion.
Men's 400m
1. LaShawn Merritt
2. Tony McQuay
3. Jeremy Wariner
Merritt is the reigning Olympic Champ and looks poised to challenge in London. McQuay is the US Champion from 2011 and is very consistent. Wariner is the 2004 Olympic Champ, but since 2010 hasn't looked like a real contender. I think Wariner will make the team but it will be hard for him to medal. There are a couple of USC Trojans that could challenge for a spot in Josh Mance and Bryshon Nellum.
Women's 400m
1. Sanya Richards-Ross
2. Francena McCorory
3. Natasha Hastings
Richards-Ross is the clear favorite. I don't think any of these women can catch her. McCorory has improved a lot over the past 2 years and with her World Championship experience from last year she looks to make her first Olympic team. Hastings was on the 2008 Olympic team in the 4x4 relay pool so she has the experience and a gold medal from those games and she also is the bronze medalist from the World Indoor Championships in March. Jessica Beard, Debbie Dunn and Dee Dee Trotter all have a shot to make the Olympic team.
Men's 100m
1. Justin Gatlin
2. Tyson Gay
3. Walter Dix/ Mike Rodgers
Gatlin and Gay are a step better than the rest of the field and barring disaster they will be on the team. Gatlin is in the best form he has been in since his drug ban, and Gay looks to be back in form from his torn labrum in his hip. Rodgers the 2009 US Champ looks to make his first Olympic team, but he will have to deal with a two time Olympic bronze medalist from Beijing Walter Dix.
